Kurtina Hammerlein manages our Succession Planning practice group.
In most cases, Kurtina will develop a Succession Plan with the client directly. If required, Kurtina, with the client’s consent, will meet with the client and his/her accountant and/or financial planner to ensure the Succession Plan is tax efficient and effective.
A Team Approach
Clients with substantial farming or business interests may require Kurtina to work with Jon and Stacey, along with the family accountant and financial planner, to develop parts of the Succession Planning discussions. This might occur with farmers:
- Working several hundred acres of land
- Owning quota
- Considering documenting an informal business relationship with a sibling farmer
- Integrating a soon-to-be-married child into the family farming operations
- Determining fair treatment of non-farming children.
We each bring unique skills to the discussion.
Jon brings in family law and real estate experience. Stacey brings in corporate law knowledge. We work as a team with your advisors to ensure you receive consistent advice. In regard to Succession Planning, our goal is to provide the client with the best advice possible, as cost effectively as possible, as quickly as possible. When government funding is available for Succession Planning, as most farmers are eligible to receive, we will work with you to access those funds.
